International Freight forwarders help importer and exporter to organize the movement of goods by road, rail, air and sea. They plan the best and most cost-effective ways of transporting goods around the world and between countries.

Program objective
This course is designed for people who want work for shipping industry. As a freight forwarder you could work for local, national and international freight forwarding companies, major retailers, manufacturers, warehousing and distribution firms, or the armed forces. With experience, you could progress to become a supervisor or manager. Jobs are very stable.

What salary and other benefits can I expect?
• Starting salary will be around $30,000 per year
• With experience 1-2 year, this can rise to $35,000 to $45,000/year
• Managers could earn up to $60,000 to 80,000 a year.

Program Pre-requisite:
There is no special pre-requisite to take this course as long as student can speak, read, and understand English.

What do we learn from this course?
• arranging routes and schedules, and confirming details with carriers
• booking cargo space with air and ocean carriers
• negotiate freight rates and deal with transportation insurance
• calculating weight, volume and shipping cost of goods to be moved
• recording details into a computer system
• preparing quotations and invoices
• clearing goods through customs and arranging duties to be paid
• preparing contracts such as Letters of Credit
• Advising clients about the arrangements that have been made
